Now that I had my training for my clients down pat and they were seeing amazing results
the next step was to study for my Bachelor of Nutrition but in order to achieve that I had to gain entry into university.
I picked what I thought at the time was the easiest way to go and I started my Diploma
of Screen and media ( Makeup Artistry ) in the city. 5 days a week catching public transport in and out of the city to something I had never even thought of doing, I mean I grew up a tomboy and had not once put on foundation, this should be interesting!
As the weeks and the months flew by I soon noticed that I had a natural flair for Makeup Artistry, it isn't really too far from art so I guess it may have just come naturally...
I began to create out-of-the-box looks on my classmates for assessments, creating time for print shoots with other artist collectives, and soon enough my work was being published in magazines all around the world, Canada, America, and Australia just to name a few.
My name was in print, in magazines and even my lecturer had commented how amazing
some of my work was and that I should do more with it, initially I hesitate because I was
only there to get my Diploma so I could gain entry into my degree but due to another casual role I landed falling through on the weekends, I decided to start up a Freelance Hair and Makeup Artist Business.
At first, the jobs were just formal events, Birthday parties, ladies' nights, and other TPF gigs for more press work but as time went on it would eventuate into predominantly bridal and commercial work. I scored my first commercial gig for the new advertising campaign for Grace Lutheran College in North Brisbane, with over 50 children in two days with both hair and makeup, and my work would go on to billboards and websites for their new marketing campaign.
These are the sort of Gigs that artists spend years trying to accomplish when I
have only simply been in the industry for under 12 months.
This gig cemented my weekend cash cow so I could continue on to progress my career
as a Health and Fitness Coach once I was able to finish my degree, everything had finally fallen into place, and "everything was coming up Millhouse".
I applied for my Bachelor in Nutrition after successfully completing my Diploma, the semester wasn't due to start for a couple of months but I was so excited and pumped
for all the new challenges and goals I was going to be kicking in 2018 and into the future.
Two weeks after the gig that kick-started my journey and hope for the future, one thing
would change the course of my life and change my role as a woman, mother,
and change my career aspirations indefinitely.
